This is a basement room that doesn’t feel like a basement. Reason:  I have invested in four things.

• A pergo floor that has a pocket of air between the flooring and the concrete sub-floor. This pocket of air means that the pergo floor will be warm to walk on.
• A window carved out of the wall by a contractor. This window provides two things. They are: 1) a fire exit; and 2) light from the outside.
• An industrial strength dehumidifier that runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
• An underground radon removal system that runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

How this room is a good deal: 

• This room is the only room on this floor.
• It is actually the largest bedroom in the house.
• It has a full bathroom within steps of it. As a result, it is almost like renting a room with an en suite bathroom.

Rooms with en suite bathrooms have been listing at $1,200 a month in Bethesda.

As a April 9, 2024, a studio apartment within steps of this place was renting for $2,000 a month.  Under "the rule of half the price of an apartment" when it is a room in a house, this room should be renting for $1,000 a month.  Instead of pricing this room at the going market rate, I have priced this room to make it affordable for you as a trainee.

How this will serve you: If you are a first generation trainee at the NIH, this place will help you to meet your goals.  Medical school applications are expensive. The money you save by staying in this room will allow you to pay for your medical school applications. You will receive many of the benefits of living in an apartment, but at a fraction of the cost.  This will be a win for you.

What this $800 a month will include:

• Utilities (i.e. electricity, gas, and water);.
• WIFI;
• Cleaning lady in the common areas once a week..

Transportation:  Bethesda Metro Train Station within 4 walkable blocks. J1 bus stop within steps.  This J1 bus will take you to and from the NIH within minutes. Walk or bike to the NIH campus or the USUHS campus easily any day. You will be able to store your bike here, because I have invested in a bike shelter in the back of this property.  This shelter has a roof.

Perks:     Weekly cleaning lady. Walk to 4 grocery stores (including Harris Teeter and Trader Joes) in minutes.  Use of a gourmet kitchen and a laundry room with a new washer and a new dryer.   The walkability score here is 98.  180 restaurants and a live theater also within walking distance. Close enough to the NIH and USUHS that you will never need a car.
